The Norman Rockwell look

If you look at the BW, his sweatshirt is the brightest thing and his face fades into the shorts of the woman standing behind him.
Totally no drama

It seems like every little piece of this adds to my impression of the scene.
Soft pastel colors
Mom behind him and Dad's big hand on the other while he ponders the classic question of a child at the fair = whetehr to trade his fishes for a crab.

The way I shoot is to go to a place that may provide something interesting and then look for things that I react to emotionally in some way. If I am intent to taking a particular kind of picture, then I'm not open to experiencing something else.

This little boy in the presence of his parents gave this Norman Rockwell middle America good old times vibe and I tried to catch it and use the colors to reproduce it.
It actually was sharper and I softened it a bit.

Here are others at different fair that appealed in the same way.

Ah the decisions a child will make. Great shot Lew. I especially like how you can see the mother and the fathers hand, a reminder of their presence just as subtle to us, as they are to the child in his decision.
