At Washington, DC Gay Pride Parade.
Unbelievably hot and bad parade.

Yeah, the heat here in the east was enough to choke you. I tried to stay in the shade. Still felt like 100.

Too often, ime, the Pride Parades are opportunities for extreme behavior that gives a bad idea of what the community is really like.
I try not to shoot too much of that; it's a bit like shooting exotics at the zoo.

The day did make me more aware of the diversity within the lesbian community

It looks like the whole outfit came from swatches from the hardware store. The skirt and necklace are texture chips from the kitchen counter section and carpet swatches. Although what those have to do with gay pride, I'm not sure.

How is that possible for an event that happens only once a year and is used as an opportunity to dress as crazy as you can and act as foolish and bizarrely as you can - and invite everyone from across the globe to join in with only one loosely held requirement, that you be gay (or at least pretend to be)?

It would be no more insightful into the photographic community if we had a once a year partyfest where anything goes. What I might do at a party like that would quite doubtfully be any insight into what I am like the other 364 days a year.

Jim is very, very right about the insight, I think.
What shows in most pictures are the extremes, clearly because they make themselves photogenic.
My friends are more typical of the gay community and probably wouldn't be caught dead at a rally like this.

This isn't typical of the gay community any more than pictures of a Tea Party rally are typical of conservatives.
