Aussie Long-beaked Corellas

G'day all

Camped for a day or two alongside a waterhole, I had plenty of birds flocking in to drink at various times of the day. Predominant amongst them were these Corellas - flocks of a hundred+ birds would come and go regularly.

I didn't know there was a long billed Corella/bare eyed cocky species, i do now.

But that last photo, that poor bird has the beak and feather virus. I fkn hate this disease!

Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD), also known as "bald cocky disease," is a highly contagious viral disease that primarily affects parrots, including cockatoos. It is caused by the Beak and Feather Disease Virus (BFDV), which attacks and kills the fast-growing cells of the beak, feathers, and claws, and also suppresses the immune system. The disease is often fatal, and there is no effective cure or treatment.
