It's very nicely lit. The processing treatment is very flat. There's no black or white in the photo. Something more like this.

Interesting; I'm normally right up there on the 'white whites and black blacks' band wagon too, but for some reason, I REALLY like the processing in the OPs image. The midtone rich look seems to suit. Well done!

I was in the "somewhere between OP's post and Joe's edit" camp, but leaning closer to Joe's edit.

Frankly, I think the original is mostly just a little too dark.

I just can't resist the chance to play...

I did a curves adjustment to bring it up a bit while still retaining the softness of the light (which I like).

I did a slight sharpening pass to give a little pop to her eyes.

It's really an absolutely stunning photo. Nice pose. Nice light. Just needed a little love, IMO.

(I think it needs just a little more tweaking from what I have as you do ALMOST lose her hair into the black. Minor adjustment but would take more than the 30 seconds I put into playing with it.)

It is a very nice portrait Jez, I really like it! But I Manahein's edit, just slightly brighter looks great.

I prefer the original. It has a Renaissance painterly feel to it in relation to pose. Well done in my opinion. Very nice softly lit. Graphite smooth quality enhances the composition. I could live with the edits but I would really consider the mood difference in the edits. The original is very gentle and romantic.

I like the picture. Ysarex's edit is an improvement as the original is a bit flat. My one negative comment would be that the pearls seem to be in sharp focus and the eyes not quite so.
