I think this is a great use of selective color. The bright colors with the desaturated background really go well together.

I actually very much like the contrast and background in this photo... I'd go back and focus solely on that.

As for the selective colouring: you've got a halo happening around the hand, especially on the left.

I like the selective colouring. I like the contrasty background. I don't like them two together though
