I've been trying to get some shots of the baby but it's really hard when she's crawling and you're chasing her. I think these 2 came out the best. I'm getting better at getting her without the toy explosion in the frame, and the lighting is better on these than before. What other suggestions do you have?

Get down on her level... don't shoot down!

Use a larger aperture / smaller f stop to "blur' out the background a bit.

Get an external flash... and don't use the pop-up flash.

Read up on basic composition.

You mean a larger aperture?

Everything he said + find a way to get her focused enough to sit still. I got about 5 min of good shots of my 1 year old by letting him make faces in a mirror. My niece (2 year old who NEVER sits still) was playing with sidewalk chalk for about 10 min...I was able to get her to look up every few min by saying things that made her laugh. After cropping I have some beautiful shots with a sweet smile. I have used bubbles, sandbox, the dog...anything that intrigues the baby and makes him laugh. You're only going to get nice photos if the baby is having fun and then you have to figure out a way to shoot around the focus of baby's attention. You just have to get creative and figure out what will hold her interest :)
