Quick comment to the original poster - it looks like you've sharpened the photo in graphics software (e.g., Photoshop). I would highly recommend sharpening it less - there's a distinct graininess to the second image that doesn't look like color noise due to high ISO but over-sharpening.

Good first shots! They look better than my first.
