Yep, it was. I was going to bring out the strobe and softbox yadda yadda but it was slightly overcast, which softened the shadows but gave a little bit of directional light so I decided to just say screw it. It was kind of super rare that it was that overcast here in May as well so I figured I should probably take advantage of it. In the last one though a patch of sunlight came through so we grabbed it quickly before it disappeared again lol.

Everything just kind of fit together for this shoot as well. I'm not sure I could consistently pull off this quality of natural light work, especially in color. Although I would like to try since I have kind of fallen into a strobe-exclusive zone the past couple of months...

Well my summer did start last week so I'm hoping to channel my boredom into some personal work before graduating in August and heading into the "real world." Maybe something amazing will come of it.

I agree with the others here; the natural light added a depth to his form that would have been lost with any supplemental light. Any of these are framers!

It takes practice to really get natural light down. I used to shoot with OCF exclusively as well. Now I rarely even take my speedlite out anymore, and usually when I do I put it back away pretty quickly because I just don't like the way it looks. OCF has a look of fabricated "perfection" to it that I just don't like, especially when used outdoors.
