These were taken at a family baseball game, with some local kids that joined in.
All shots were hand help with A57 an Sigma 17-70 F2.8-4. out of camera JPEGS with no post processing, shot in shutter priority mode. This was not done in burst mode.
I was trying to stop the movement and "capture the moment" with this set

1)The setup - shots were taken from behind the pitching screen

I know I can crop these to improve the composition

The wide angle lens didn't get you nearly close enough to the actions. As well as the faces are unde exposed and lack the feeling of the players facial expression.

With the sun behind the players you need to use some exposure compensation to get the faces exposed properly when using any of the auto modes. Better yet, if the light is not changing, take a test shot in an auto mode and then switch over to manual exposure using that first shot as a starting point.

Shooting sports with a lens focal length like yours is pretty tough, there is just too much empty space in the images. Crop in the images and make sure the subjects are not bullseyed in the center of every shot.

I suppose instead of being a chicken and hiding behind the pitching screen you could have moved up closer, just make sure you are shooting with both eyes open so you can duck and take the ball in ribs. :er:

I was more worried about the camera getting hit actually lol

It was a pretty bright day, when I tried to expose for the face, the red ground, and if anyone was wearing white would blow out.
I need to start doing some post processing. I think that I would be able to lighten up their faces, (and a good crop wouldnt hurt either)
So much to learn

For me, if you get the subject in the image exposed well, I don't mind non-important areas of white being blown out.
