Photos NOT OK to edit
Hi all, I've been offered to take some photographs for a theatre show in my town the day after tomorrow, called 'Arad Goch'. I was just wondering if any of you had any useful tips or advice for photographing a theatrical performance, as I've never done this kind of thing before.

Fast lenses, high ISO and shoot raw, is it in Welsh ?

Dress theatrically!

And by that I mean trousers, a dark shirt or sweater or jacket, and no jeans, no T-shirts, no tennis shoes.

I stopped by your Flickr pages, and your photos show that you really know your way around a camera. Surely you will do fine on the technical end of things.

See if you can get to some dress rehearsals to watch the blocking, lighting, etc.
It will give you a better ideal of just what are the high points you want to capture. Watch, make some notes, more than one would be nice so that you can then go with a camera and already known when, where and how you need to shoot.

although not likely doable in this case, take them at the final dress rehersal. the lighting, costumes, etc will all be the same.

and you can get in the way of the "audience" during it

@gsgary yeah it's welsh.

Ok thanks everyone for the tips! One more question however:

I have a Canon EOS 1000D and everytime I take a picture it makes a little bleep noise as well as the sound of the shutter. Does anyone know how to silence the bleep?

Will this be a problem if taking photos during dress rehersals?

You might call Canon and see what they say

A little bleep noise? I've never heard of such a noise unless you're talking about the actual shutter noise - the rebel models do tend to make a fairly loud sort of a noise though I'm not sure I'd call it a bleep.

You can prevent the beeper from sounding when achieving focus.

Push the tab that looks like a camera, and select beep, then press the "set" option. Select "off" and then press "set" again, and hopefully that should work.
From page 108 in the Canon manual.

Just did the show today and it went pretty well. :D The shutter noise wasn't really a problem although it's pretty loud, but yeah; I was mistaken the shutter kinda sounds like bleep (to me anyway) haha. The company invited me back to do another show in February so it's all good, and thanks again!
