Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
I have been using Faststone to batch rename my photos yy-mm-dd-xxxxx which is nice.

Question is, anyone familiar with this program or any others that make it easier to rename photos off an Sd card?

I'll have pics of animals, my son, buildings etc and it's very time consuming to have to go under every folder to batch rename those certain pics.

Possible I'm just over thinking this haha

Not sure about Faststone but this Bulk Rename Utility has crazy number of options, it's supper fast and it's free. Has been used here to rename thousands upon thousands of our studio images in all kinds of ways.. if you are on Windows and don't mind spending sometime to learn it (it's pretty simple!), I recommend it.

It can take a parent folder and rename all images inside by appending the parent name automatically and you can do this for a bunch of folders at the same time if that's what you are looking for. It can do all kinds of other changes at the same time like time stamping, numbering, etc.

I'll have to check it out

+1 for Bulk Rename Utility
Just brilliant, and very powerful.
I use it every week.

What other software do you have/use?

I'm just asking because the 'best' software for photo organizing and processing is Adobe Lightroom. Among many, many other things, it can rename photos very easily. It also gives you many other tools for sorting and organizing your photos, in bulk and very quickly.

I almost never rename my personal photos, but I add plenty of key words, which make it easy to search for them later.

There are other image database management applications for photo organizing and processing that are better than Lightroom - like Phase One Media Pro ($99).

I suspect what you really need is a more systematic approach when initially uploading image files (ingestion) to your computer.
To that end, if you don't already have it I recommend The DAM Book: Digital Asset Management for Photographers

A key advantage of image database management applications over a computers browser application is their search ability, if images are keyworded at ingestion.
At first keywording seems to be an onerous task, but with experience it gets easier and once you begin to reap the benefits you'll understand how powerful keywording and image database management can be.
