Per the advice of fellow member Mikbone I purchased a diffuser for doing macro shots and here are my first few results.

White flower with bee edited.jpg

This guy lost a couple of legs trying to free himself from a spiderweb. I eventually set him free and he flew away albeit minus a couple appendages.

No bugs here...just practicing with the diffuser.

Once again, a special thanks to Mikbone for his well received advice on diffusers and how to use them. I came to this forum to learn, so many thanks to all who share their experience.

can you forward your camera settings please
?

Very nice set of pics.
I played a lot with diffusion for Macro but you seem to have a good handle on it.

I still want to know how to train insects to stay still long enough for a good portrait :cheerful::encouragement:

Thanks for the compliment! Ditto on the bugs not staying still.

Thank you. The diffuser is working very well. Just my bug finding capability that needs an upgrade I think! :)

Thanks.. try these..
f/8, or 9, set the iso to 200 and the shutter to 1/200 or the sync speed for the camera, it should be 1/200 or 1/250 . set the flash to 1/8 power and adjust accordingly for correct exposure . setting the iso to 200 will eliminate the noise you can see in the images

Talking about bug finding........

This little bug was on the wall of my shed. It very politely stayed very still to allow me to get a 5 shot focus stack done. It was in an inaccessible position so this was the only angle I could get.

Best bug pic I have ever done. :icon_biggrin: Need to find more bugs now.

Great job! I'd love to see a comparison between this pic and the middle focus stack shot.
