Beginner - First Flower Shots

Havn't had my camera long and I am still using the kit lens. I used some flower shots to allow me to try out different f numbers in the av setting. Here is what I managed...

Pretty orchid - #2 is the best of the 3. Perhaps better lighting and a little more contrast/saturation would help.
 
Hello Jack, and welcome to TPF.

Good work checking out different settings on the cam. The most pleasing image to me is the second - it has the simplest composition, and I like the curve of the stem and complimentary colours.

I look forward to seeing more of your work.

I tried another with a solid background, light wasn't the best again but I am working on that :D

I like that one best, definitely. An orchid doesn't need anything to detract from it and your lighting looks like it's improved, too.
 
I like the solid background. If you have a bunch of non-organic shapes mingling with a flower, it looks a little weird. Your composition is good other than that though, I like it.
