Benefit for Baby Lucas--Raffle tickets

This benefit is for Baby Lucas. This is to help his family pay for surgeries, medication, and future treatment that he will need.


Baby Lucas was born March 27, 2009 and was born with a congenital heart defect and would need surgery to repair it. He was 6 lbs 12 oz and 21 inches long. He was born with Truncus Arteriosus Type 1 and a Ventricular Septal Defect. Only hours after he was born was he transfered to Rady Children's Hospital. He was doing fine for the first couple of days but then he started to pump too much blood into his lungs and not to the rest of his body. That meant that he needed to have the surgery to repair the defects sooner than expected to minimize the damage on his other organs. He also had high oxygen saturation levels and had to be given nitrogen to lower it. At one week old he underwent open heart surgery to repair the heart defect. It was hard for his mother to see him after his surgery. He had drainage tubes coming out of his little chest and a whole bunch of IVs. For a short time he was on the ventilator. The major surgery is over for right now but he still has a leaky valve that will need to be replaced at 6 months of age. Once that is completed, he will need to have open heart surgery about every 2 years up until he is about 14 years of age to replace the donor valve that was put in to repair the Truncus Arteriosus because it doesn't not grow with him. He currently has a g-tube for feeding and for his 5 medication to be adminstrated in. He is currently released from Rady Children's Hospital and remains in good spirits. Doctors are hoping that every thing goes well and that he doesn't have a relap and be placed back in the hospital.

All items are brand new and donated from managers at local stores.

Drawing is held Aug. 17th at 4pm. Winners do not have to be present to win. Money raised from raffles tickets are going toward "Baby Lucas Fund" to help pay for his medical bills, future treatment and items that he needs that they family can not afford.
