I assume some of the people here must occasionally put their own photos in frames for personal use, so I am here to ask: is there a "best" adhesive for putting poster-size photos in frames? I mean up to 24 x 36. I need something to attach relatively flimsy photos to stiffer boards so they don't sag, and I don't want the adhesive to ruin everything. My understanding is that sprays are the way to go.

I've used adhesive mounting spray for art work, on smaller prints. Might be a little tricky on 24x36. If you only spray one surface you can reposition, but it has a tendency to come loose over time. Spaying both surfaces creats a permanent bond, but it grabs and hold making repositioning difficult.

The preferred method is dry mounting, using heat activated adhesive tissue. You can buy the tissue and use a iron. However, it would probably be more cost effective to have it done. Check out Hobby Lobby, or local frame shops.

Thanks.

I use linen hinge tape. For something that big, I'd put three or four "hinges" along the top.

As mentioned above, most full service labs offer mounting. I use Nations Photos, mounting a 24x36 runs anywhere from $35 to $57 depending on the material and thickness. As they are shipped flat, larger prints mounted are probmatic, dinged corners and creasing.

For something that big I’d use mounting spray on both sides. Lay it down on an over sized mounting board starting in the center holding both ends up. Then trim the board down to size to fit the frame.

Spray will probably work but I use Scotch ATG framing tape. Hardest thing about using either will be putting the picture down and getting it flat. Biggest O usually do are 12x24 and I simply lay the print down on matt board cut for the print. couple pieces tape at the top and cover with foam core. Foam core tight and staples down tight.

On this photo the photo has Scotch ATG 700 tape holding it to foam core and spray glue holding that foam core to bit smaller foam core on the bottom.
