I guess I just need to fuss a bit. I decided a while back that I wanted a new camera and after much research picked the Canon 7d. OK, I will confess to being a bit frugal, so I have been waiting patiently for the best price. Today I received a coupon by email from Best Buy for 10% off any regular priced item, DSLR's included. I was excited. Then I called to make sure the coupon was going to work, before I drove the hour to the nearest Best Buy, experience teaches this. Sure enough, the camera is "on sale" for $1.00 off the regular price so the coupon doesn't apply. I know it's not surprising, as we're talking about Best Buy, but it's aggravating just the same.

How long is the coupon good for, and how long is the camera on sale? If possible, wait 'em out.

I hadn't thought of that, the coupon is good through the 18th, but I don't know how long the camera is supposed to be on "sale". They're sales usually run Sunday to Sunday, so it'll be interesting to see what the price is on Monday. Thanks for the idea.

Pretty sleazy tactic on the part of Best Buy. If you want the absolute best deal on a Canon product, it's often good to wait until Canon offers its big rebates on its stuff that isn't selling very well, or which is approaching the end of life, and which needs to be cleared out of the retail channel.

Late May and early June is graduation season--and cameras are a fairly traditional graduation gift item, often discounted very heavily in the month of May and the first week of June. So, perhaps you could wait a month,or so, and get a really good deal!

This is news to me. After working at Best Buy, I know we can. Probably someone who didn't know what they were talking about.

Or someone that didn't feel like it or was told not to. That is a common excuse for regular employees that are told not to do something, it's an easy way to get a customer off their back.

Not surprised. Why would anyone buy at Best Buy if they are not in a hurry?

In the past when they advertised the price match guarantee, what they did was they changed the SKU number of the product, so even when you find a cheaper price else where, they will compare the sku number and say they are not the same. It's just a tactic to get you into the door.

Future Shop is the alternative to Best Buy in Canada, but then stock in Best Buy is profitable in the long term, or the short term if you buy in at the right time.
