Best camera for the money

Which of these would offer best picture quality? Long exposures, not moving/hi-speed/sports shots.

Nikon D100
Nikon D70
Nikon D1X

I was personally drawn to the D1x or the D70. I've used a D60 before, and was happy with the picture quality. Are any of the ones I posted better?

Picture quality is almost entirely in the hands of the photographer.

What do you plan on making images of?

The D100 and the D1X both have 1/8000 shutters, the D70 only has a 1/4000 shutter.

When you say long exposures, how long do you consider long?

Its been a while since I've used a D70, but from what I can remember is it didnt handle long exposures very well. I have no experience with the others

I would suggest the D70. I have a D40 and recently used a D70... I would have bought the D70 if I would have known how awesome it is. :er: It does have a rather small screen though....

I'd suggest the D70... but I haven't worked with much of any of them.

I would suggest a D40 for longer exposures. Noise control on the D70 isn't all that great and that might become an issue with long exposures. I've seen nice long exposures from the D40....in this area alone, I would expect the D60 to outperform the D70 (and I am saying this as a lover of the D70s and had one for 2 years).
