Best picture upload size

Hi all....was wondering what file size/image dimensions is best for posting photos. I assume a .jpg....file size about one or two megabytes sound good? What do you guys do?

I resize my images for the web no longer than 800 pixels on the long side of the image.

I like 200 to 400.

there is no reason for an image that is 1000 x 800 to be more than 300 k in size. It is wasted information that won't affect the display.

I use the 800 long side method for posting here on TPF... and use moderate web compression... usually under 300-400 k as the Traveler mentioned! At 800 x X size... you won't even notice the compression if done correctly. Just DO NOT allow Facebook, Photobucket or Flickr, etc, etc.. to compress your images! They have compression algorithms that crush the life out of any photo they compress... always resize and compress on your own, no matter where you are posting! That will give you optimal quality.
