Bird ID

Hi Everyone.
I have just joined this site minutes ago while searching online trying to ID a downed hawk in my rural neighborhood. Can someone please ID this raptor for me. Someone here where I Iive has said it's a merlin. I'd like a second opinion.

I live at 50 Degrees north on Canada's west coast. We don't have many raptor species here, and those few that do live here mostly do so only in summer. Thanks for any help with this. PS this merlin was quickly taken to a local MARS (wild bird rescue) station on Vancouver Island, where it will be well-cared for and it injuries will be mended.

Yes, that's what a local has ID'd it as too: a merlin. It was taken to a wild bird sanctuary, where it will be well-tended and should fully recover.
