Birds of Paradise

Took this one at my parents over Thanksgiving weekend. I think it turned out pretty good.

Such a pity the focus shifted just this little away from the centre of the flower (where I think I was intended to be) towards that bluish petal to the left...
Are these flowers called "Birds of Paradise" in English? I never knew that.

I am still new with using my digital camera and it's a basic model. Is it worth it to upgrade yet or still play around for now? Also, what camera would you recommend if I did upgrade? I keep finding problems with focusing b/c it auto focuses and there is no way to adjust it on my model.

Also, the plants are called "Bird of Paradise". My parents live in Florida and they grow wonderfully there
