I've got a fujifilm s4000 30x zoom but looking 2 get a dslr soon... Maybe a nikon d5100

Place bird feeder in back yard, fill with bird seed,birds come to eat bird seed, take pictures of birds.

This actually places the birds much closer and you can use a shorter and much less expensive lens. It's good practice.

Sorry 600mmF4 and a 2x extender, i have a 300mmF2.8L and that is not long enough with a 2x for shooting birds in the wild

Then you're doing it wrong.

1. Bait them with seed.
2. Bait them with songs of birds you want to show up (make CD, play CD in portable CD player on site).
3. Use a blind.

I did these and a pile more with a "Nifty Fifty" 50mm f/1.8 and a speedlight:

Wow buckster they are some nice pictures, I love watching birds and taking pictures of them, I mainly do mine in my sisters back garden she's got a big garden, we got like 4 or 5 bird feeders in the trees and 1 bird table... We get all the tits, nuthatch, bullfinch, greenfinch and loads more... Any tips would be hugely great-full..... Thank you!

1. Bait them with seed, fruit or whatever the species you're after likes.
2. Bait them with songs of birds you want to show up (You can find the sounds on the internet, make CD, play CD in portable CD player on site).
3. Use a blind.
4. Have lots of patience.
5. Be quiet and move slowly, even inside the blind.
6. When setting up the bait area, try to make it look natural.

If possible, set up your bait in a very small, limited area, then set up the camera on a tripod and prefocus on that spot where you know they'll be. If you set it all up right, you can shoot by simply firing a remote trigger, and that means you can be far enough away that there's no chance you'll spook them.

Doesn't the flash scare them away? That would have been my concern. Either way very nice pics and amazing that you used a 50mm.
