Birthday Cake

I'm not a food photographer, but I did what I could with this. My wife made this incredible Schwarzwaelder Kirschtorte from scratch. I'm quickly consuming the cake, so opportunities for more shots are quickly dwindling... what can I do to improve this?

f/2.8 1/250 ISO 1600 50mm with a diffused Godox flash bounced off of the ceiling.

First off Happy Birthday! I'm not a food photographer either. My suggestion is to shoot different angles and a few from above. Plain plate or one that is less decorative on a solid background like a wood table or cutting board.

Thank you! One of my goals was to have the Kirschwasser bottle in the background, to help identify the cake. I did try some different angles. May have to ask for another cake so that I can try some more shots... photographic, not necessarily the schnapps...
