Our community has a long standing relationship with Alabama Power. William Patrick Lay (third generation river boat captain) founded the company on December 4,1906 in Gadsden, AL. The companies original logo/sign still hangs.

I can't say this is an original, it's in to good of shape to be over a 100 years old, maybe a very good reproduction. This hangs over the office in Attalla, AL which coincidentally is where, just outside of town, Lay actually constructed his first small hydro electric plant. Not sure why the power company doesn't include that information in their history. The rubble is still visible if you know where to look.

It is an attention grabber, and to the best of my knowledge the only one actually hanging at an Alabama Power office.

Thanks JC. Actually as I recall, the neon is white, so the night shot might not be as colorful.

Almost bought one last week but the price wasn't right and vendor stood firm. It was 30-35 too high. It was an early GE, cast iron / brass.

You should of bought it especially if it was a Pancake or a BMY - they ain't making anymore you know...By the way I am looking for the brass butterfly nuts for a Robbins & Myers 1404, just in case you come across any spare parts! ;-)
