black and white, and a birdy

Got the chance to get a couple of shots from my digital today. Instant processing!!!

My first question is if people think the black and white on the first shot works. Does it have any depth? The lighting was quite poor but it was a good situation, so I had to grab it

In the second, does this silhouette type shot create interest, or is it not interesting with the lack of detail?

Any other comments or critique is more than welcome! Thanks for looking

i like the silhouette photo personally. For me i think the photo would be more bland if it wasn't shadows.

I like the first one a bunch. I wish the shadow wasn't there.... I think it ruins the picture a little. The bird one is good too.
