Black squirrels are a mutant with a faulty gene created by interbreeding between a fox & Grey squirrel. They originated in the north, but have since spread. We have a campground about 5 miles from us that's a popular stop off for snowbirds headed south. The little buggers apparently were unknown hitch hikers on rigs that decided to stay. Over the last few years I've started to notice them on our place.
