Our local science museum just opened a new wing, and they had a 24 hour street party to commemorate the event. I caught this little girl in one of the face-painting tents, looking a little unsure about what she was getting herself into.
Self-critique: I think I'm focused on the painter's shoulder and not the girls face, and I may be a tad under-exposed. I'm also of two minds about how I've cropped this. I tried to include the complete sign "Face and Body Art" in the picture, and I think having the third lady on the left under the sign gives the picture a bit of a balance, but I'm not sure it's really all that necessary.
I know some of you will probably also complain about how I cut off the poor girl's feet, but I feel like I was fighting several incompatible constraints at once. I was trying to maintain a standard 5:4 aspect ration that kept all of the banner in place, but I felt if I cropped any wider I was getting too much extraneous 'junk' in view. Maybe I should have moved the crop 'up' a bit so that the picture's bottom is just below the hem of her dress?
(PP: Primarily just sharpening and cropping in GIMP, although I did brighten the image a bit by shifting the yellow/blue balance toward yellow.)
(For what it's worth, I do have a RAW of this image as well. I haven't done anything with it though because this is one of my first ever RAW images and I haven't even thought about how to use any of the RAW pp tools.)
