Botched Bumble Bee's

I hate them, first time trying to macro something alive and moving, so I rushed and it shows. But I figured I'd upload to see what I can do better next time. White balance is really off, both were sitting on a blue tupperwear lid. And I think several shots with different DOF's would improve it. What else?

Whatever you might think about these images, I find them compelling to view. There's something surreal and fascinating going on here. I love the color, that pulled water drop the bee is struggling to escape, the extreme DOF, and the texture of bee hair and water. Pretty cool stuff.

Found a half dead fly today and decided to try again...

I need to get some extension tubes or a better macro lens. Any suggestions for a cheapo like me?

I shoot every morning, part of my daily practice ritual. And every morning I am taunted by bumbles. They are always around and they won't sit still. I feel your frustration.

I kinda like that first one.

Thanks guys! I just don't like how they are completely OOF, but I was using pretty much a magnifying glass to take them, so they suck, despite what you say.

Next time try using a smaller aperture... It seems you're shooting wide-open and not focusing correctly...
Also, try to find a better background.

About the cheap gear, I think the extension tubes are the way to go. Just make sure you don't buy the cheap ones w/o contacts.

Honestly, I suck at focusing. Mostly because close is on too me, my eyesight sucks!

Thanks for the link! Unfortunately I won't be able to afford a semi-nice set for a while (aquariums sucking up all my money right now), but I plan to by mid-October.
