The color balance of the images is very cold (at least that's how they look on my monitor) There is a cyan/blue hue that makes the child and the dog seem cold. Just warming up the images would help if you have a decent image editing program. Otherwise, I think that the suggestions about cropping, etc. that others have made are very good suggestions.
