Brand new 7D giving Err 20 constantly.

Can't take any photos at all. I've tried removing the battery, CF card, and lens, but it appears as soon as I power on. Is sending back to Canon the only solution here? Could someone give me am overview of how the process works and how long it takes?

how long depends on what's wrong with it, and whether you're a CPS member or not. Can't speak for in the US, but here in the UK anything from CPS members goes straight to the technicians, and tend to average one week from leaving you to arriving back with you. Non CPS turnaround over here is around 2 - 3 weeks. Does depend what's wrong with it tho.

You said brand new... as in it does this out of the box? In that case take it back to the store you bought it from.
If it is warranty work-not THAT brand new it could take 3 or 4 weeks or it could be back to you in a week or so... It all depends. Call Canon's customer service line and see what they say.

If you are using a high speed high density CF card, then you might want to update the firmware. There were a lot of bug fixes related to these type issues. Outside of that, I'm not really sure what else could be causing your problem.
