Photos NOT OK to edit
like the title said.. i am a college student who has been saving to buy his very own camera. i have my eyes set on nikon just because all my other friend use it too. i have got mix reviews on the Nikon D40(x) and the Nikon D60. i would like to get some more input. like pros and cons of each. keep in mind that i am not swimming in a pool of cash so which would be the best for the less.... if thats even possible. thank you for the help.

General tip is buy no less than a D80 if you can swing it. Only buy less of a camera if you have to because of money. There's nothing wrong with the D40/60... but it is far less of a cam than a D80, and it may annoy you.

As someone else said, search on previous posts. If you search on my name and D100 D200 D300, you will get my take on most of the Nikon line, including the D40/60/80.

im like you and i have a d40 and i love it although after about 6 months of shooting i feel like i could make much better use of more (higher end) options/settings so im starting to save up for the d90 that should be out soon. i have used a d80 that a friend had a while ago and it definitely feels much more substantial.

thanks for the help. i appreciate it.

What the heck?

Buy what fits in your budget AND experience range. The D40x/D60 will take just as good pictures as the fancy-dancy D80, without the premium. Please do not allow folks who are into tech-porn to tell you otherwise, or that you NEED high-iso performance when you're never in a situation where you'll actually need to use it.

The question isn't "What's the better camera" - the question is "What camera is best for what I will use it for?"
