I posted some of these on the general forum that were color. Disclaimer: I do not hate flowers, happiness, love, or anything happy lol Just working on some technique and had lots of flowers handy. I only say this because I got a you must hat flowers comment in the other thread. this is my favorite one so far. I like how the curves of the flames turned out. Enjoy.

Is this PP technique or you make a real set ? Sharpness of the fire doesn't match the flower. This creates not very believable feeling, at least with me.

I wasnt trying to stop the motion or anything more of the flowing feeling is what I was going for. I do see what you mean though. How would you go about this picture. I used 2 speed flashes from either side and slightly behind and set for a 1.6 second exposure @ I believe f11, maybe I should try a faster shutter speed but I do like this as is.

And I guess by technique I mean the technique of blending artificial light with ambient light, obviously in this case the ambient light is the fire.

What I meant by matching is, that the flame looks like a small distance away behind the rose and outside the DoF. I don't see the lack of sharpness as a movement of the fire, but as lack of focus. That's why I don't feel, that the rose is "on fire", what, I guess, is the intention here. Maybe the solution would be to use multiple flashes to catch in the flame some sharp lines to make it more present with the rose.

It's kind of a cheesy subject, but I dig the photo. It's a technically difficult subject that's well exposed, and the central composition works. There may be a liiiitle too much headroom above the fire. I'd try and put the rose a little higher in the frame, relatively, and crop some of the negative space out. Really though that's nitpicks. Pretty nice.
