Bus Stop

Nice shot. If she had some beads around her neck I'd think this was at Mardi Gras. Nice contrast too.
Unsure if they knew the bus route changed long ago.

Have a soft spot for these small, creative, struggling businesses in the far west of the Toronto GTA along Lakeshore Blvd W in Mississauga. As a failure-prone strip in old Port Credit, shop space rents there are low and leases usually kind to tenants. Many also have OK walk-up living spaces. Truly predatory landlords and REITs skipped it for easier prey elsewhere.

I'll second that! I am one of those small struggling businesses. I struggle for reasons other than what many might think. My problem is trying to schedule my 'hands-on, physical, time consuming, not predictable time-wise, work with the 'meetings, appointments, and errands' mindset of the typical homeowner. Many times I will suggest a 7:30-8:00am start time for their service request only to be met with 'Oh, heavens no. I have to take my cat to the vet, then I have Mah Jong at the country club with my quilting club girlfriends, then we usually have lunch, then I have to pick my cat up from the vet, and I should probably do some grocery shopping on my way home too, so I'll see you about 2:00'. Sometimes they simply have too many all important zoom meetings and can only see me during some obscure 15 minute break between zooms, say about 11:15am, which never works for someone who involves himself in jobs that take all day many times. This is no bullshit, seriously. People have no respect for service folks like me. They have never worked with their hands and consequently have very little understanding of my occupation, electrical work. They think it is like their meetings, where they start and end at exact times, or they must believe my job is like their errand running where each one is very predictable time-wise, and short in duration. Alas, long live the almighty zoom call and the much coveted all too frequent errand!
Sorry for the rant, I just got home and you can probably tell how my day went.

Bizarre... I request skilled trades service. They tell me when. I work with 'em. Job gets done. Simple.

That is commendable. Your success is due largely on your willingness to be flexible and part of the solution, versus being a stick in the mud. I do have some customers who want to work with me, many actually, but the prevailing mindset here is that I am not their priority, but nevertheless they don't want to wait either. It's either that, or they are in some crazy hurry where they want to replace a fully functional chandelier before Saturday at 2:00pm, when their daughters 6th grade graduation party begins. Mind you, they call me Thursday afternoon for this service, not realizing guys like me who have been in business in this area for 25 years are very busy, usually for some days, or weeks into the future. They think we are like Door dash, or Uber, or Google searches, where everything is super fast. Due to their lifestyles, jobs, education, and the way they were raised, they seemingly have no real connection to the physical, work with your hands, world I know so well. They have lived a life void of ever doing anything for themselves, always hiring everything done, even walking of the dog. Admittedly, I work primarily in a very affluent area, for very nice people, who see their daily lives through a much different prism than I see mine. I do all this complaining but when it comes down to it I am sure I'll continue on, knowing that it is they who pay my bills.

I simply treat 'em right and always pay on the spot. They return the favor usually by working me in. I never ask for it. I value those relationships and try to cultivate them.

You're a good man! Can you please clone yourself about 100k times and send them to the Bay Area . Actually, nearly all of my customers pay immediately, and are delighted they got something done. If only I could get them to understand that the 'good guy' they were referred to is likely to be busy, and therefore they might be a need to be patient with regards to timing.
