This lovely butterfly was nice enough to stay still long enough for me to get this photo. I'm quite happy with it, but I would like the opinions of the more experiences.

Unfortunately, I was on the wrong side of the leaf. It was a very impulsive shot. :P

Notice this is your first post, so welcome to the forum. Not bad for an impulsive shot and as you said, it is too bad that the butterfly was on the other side of the leaf. The only thing that you have to think about is that if you are going to shoot these type of critters, then you have to get a lot closer (maybe crop this one a little tighter following the rule of thirds?). If you Google the net for butterfly photography, you will notice that a lot of the image captures fill a lot of the frame with the insect. HTH.

Yeah. My thought were along the same lines. We were in the gardens for the flowers and the macro side of things. So I think I shot that with the 18-55mm lens at full zoom. Ah well, I was quite happy with it for one of my early shots.

Thanks for your comments. =)

Cropped a little tighter would have been better but I really like the effect of the shadow lining up with the butterfly & the hole in the leaf. Nice shot.
