Buying a new camera for my wife for taking baby photos and more ($250-$350 budget)

Why don't you just tell your wife what you would like to do for her and let her decide what camera she would like. My husband gifted me with a camera and I really appreciate it. However, Im already saving for a better one because I have gotten to a point with my photography where my camera limits me. Buy right and you won't be buying twice in a short period of time.

Also, you haven't even considered lenses.

I think it's great what you want to do. I bet your wife will too. But it sounds like she may know what to buy. She will appreciate it even if the surprise is not the gift itself but the intention of the gift.
