On Valentine's Day, about 58 years ago, I gave one of these to my future wife. Yesterday, nosing around in a store featuring old cameras and film, I saw this on the counter. And somehow, it took me back to that moment.
She already has the Valentine's present I planned for her, but tomorrow morning at her desk this will be there with a rose and this note:
I intended, when I went in there, to find old film to make a camera sing again.
And looking around the old ones filling dusty shelves, something white
among the black and silver, caught my eye.
And my heart.
Was it our first Valentines Day, or the second? I don't know.
But I remember the moment when I gave it to you.
"No one else gets me what I want!"
Maybe you never knew how that pleased me and touched me.
But the happiness never left me.
So even though it may never take another image,
I want you to see it and know how much you meant to me then,
and always will.
