I would love to know were I can improve on this photo!

The purple sky might be your first hint that it is over-saturated.
The only problem here is that the symbolism is so common and so heavy handed that it loses any novelty.
Church, cross, clouded sky with beams of light, shadow - seen it, if not a million times, then something close.

Agreed. Purple kills it for me. It's not natural.

I've never seen a purple sky. It might look good in BW, but don't care for the unnatural looking sky, sorry.

I only took this shot because it was there, I was there, and there was nothing else to take photos of.
Church shots are not a favorite of mine!!!

The sun looks a bit overly blown out. Maybe a grad nd filter would have helped?
