C&C Please - First Timer

Ooh...that's a nice shot... I am not skilled enough to know whether or not there are any technical issues, but from my eye it looks pretty damn good.

I love this shot! I as well can't give you any really great pointers but from what I can see I think it looks great! Nothing looks blown out there is good detail in the water and I love the expression! Great job!

Yeah I have nothing to say except "print and frame"

C&C as requesred: I think you should not have cut off the head of the kid in the background.... Perhaps a larger aperture (smaller F number) while focusing on the front child. Just some thoughts... I like the shot though.

Great shot :) I agree with Bus rider about the DoF.

I like the shot, but not the processing. Its too yellow/copper for my taste. Why did you do a square crop? Is the boys head chopped off in the original?

Very lovely shot!

Thanks for the feedback -

Bus Rider - I never really noticed the kid in the back. I was too focused on the main subject. Took a look at the original and his head was cut off in it too.

It is not bad as a candid photograph, but ...

I find the kid in the back (behind the main subject) distracting ... same with the angled wall.
I really do not like the toning added to the image.

and move the child from the center of the shot to the left, leaving more room in front of her and less room behind.

Having a picture that is slightly off standard dimensions effects people because they are used to seeing things in some standard formats.

With the subject in the center the entire left part of the frame doesn't add anything to the impact. So I added on the right and the top and clipped a bit off the left and then cropped to 4 x 5

OTOH, this is a pretty nice capture of actual life - worth 10,000 of those solid, still, boring portraits.
The coloring along with the subject gives it a timeless feel and it suits my personal taste.

I like it but for the shape of the frame, it's an odd-shaped photograph. Perhaps it's just me! I would also crop out the dead space on the left of the girl, that way the girl and her splash would fill the frame.

I like the shot, just not how yellow it is. Personal preference I suppose :)

This has a square crop. Do you have the original before the crop that you could share? Maybe a different crop might be stronger.
