two and three from first post are very nice!
for the rest of the shots i personaly dont see gimmic and amateurish at all,
lensflare and light works really well. I think they are interesting and i hope you continue to follow your inner voice when you like something.

What happened to the concept of just being respectful but truthful to someone who is trying new things to see if they work for him/her?
You know, like you would treat a beloved child or friend.

Seems ironic coming from somebody who has, "If I have to make a choice between giving my honest opinion and being popular, honesty wins every time." as their signature.

To more directly answer your question, she is not a beloved child or friend. The OP is somebody who is asking for comments and critiques on old photos that she had taken some time back. She got comments and critiques. Some positive, some negative. That's how this whole comment and critique thing works...

My guess is that my statement would seem ironic to someone who seems not to know the meaning of civility or irony.

Telling someone that you don't like this particular work, along with the reason, is helpful but this kind of passion-aggressive comment " Perhaps, your images are just too artistic for me. If you enjoy them that is all that matters." is juvenile and disrespectful.

Actually, that comment wasn't meant to be passive-aggressive or sarcastic. I am not an artist. I am an Engineer. I enjoy the technical aspects of photography but I will never be an artist. There is a ton of artsy stuff I just don't get and don't care for. For me to say it may just be too artistic for me is more a shortcoming of me than the OP. That is why I followed it up with if she is happy with it, than that is all that matters.

Basically, I addressed the technical stuff. She said she liked it that way. I backed off. Hardly passive-aggressive.
