Camera Equivalence

Ok, so Canon and Nikon, the 2 leading DSLR Companies. I was just wondering what products of each company is equivalent to the other. this ill help you understand it more:

Nikon D3000,D3100,D500,D5100 >>> Equivalent to >>>> Canon Digital Rebel Series

What about the rest?

Nikon D70,D80,D90 >>> ?
Canon 40D,50D,60D >>>> ?
Canon 5D, 5DmII >>>>> ?
Nikon D3,D4 >>>>> ?
Canon 7D >>>>>>> ?
Canon 1D series >>>>>> ?
Nikon D700 >>>>>>>>> ?

It's not that simple...the line ups are not exactly equivalent like that.

For example, Canon's 5D series is a full frame sensor in a mid range body. I guess the same could be said of Nikon's D700. But if you compare the two, the Canon is more a 'studio' or pure image maker (it has lackluster AF & frame rate) while the D700 has much better AF and speed.

I think the 7D compares against the D7000.

Yea i think thats true, its just i wanna try and get that list, its always been on my mind.

Your best comaprables will come if you run the compare tool at dpreview.com , this lets you do side by side comparing of features. The only real list I've ever seen is in annual photography magazines that only compare the new models to each other, and often times they are not comparing equal models.

As previously mentioned they don't line up exactly but in general...

(with the current models)

D3100:1100D(T3)
D5100:600D(T3i)
D7000:60D
D300s:7D
D700:5DmkII
D3S:1DmkIV (although, not full frame)
D3X:1D X

Again, these aren't exact. As someone has mentioned the 7D is probably more comparable to the D7000 than the D300s. But it gets more inexact when you move up to the FF bodies.

The consumer level cameras line up pretty nicely though.
