Camera identification

I was wondering if someone would be able to help me identify what type of camera this is? I filmed this car driving in our work car park but have not been able to ID the camera. I know the car mount is manfrotto.

I had to take a screen grab from my video I took of them.

What kind of car is that? It looks like it COULD be a Ford Taurus, and that combined with the camera, the way it's mounted, and the fact that they're driving around your parking lot with that thing mounted tells me it could be police. If it IS, it's probably a video camera plugged into a computer used to identify license plates and use 4G networks to check the status of the plates, i.e. stolen, wanted owner, etc.

Edit: didn't see that you're in Australia, so I have no idea what car that is. But I still think it's a police license plate cam.

It wasn't what would normally be classed as a cop car here in Australia. I believe they are licence/registration checking. Just curious as I have not seen a camera like this before.

I'd say it's some type of ANPR (automated number plate recognition) camera. Here in NZ we have cars with roof mounted cameras hooked up to a computer, can read 2000+ number plates an hour. Quite common in the UK, just being rolled out here.

We've got cameras similar to that on campus here at school for parking enforcement. Could be that or some sort of surveillance. Could also be the Google Earth folks updating their databases although what they could possibly want in a parking lot I have no idea.

Yeah I joked at work about a possible google car parks.

The car was a KIA Sedan. I mean maybe the government are cutting corners and buying cheaper cars? Usually they are always i a ford/Holden/Mitsubishi here in Adelaide.

As the camera is pointing down I've come to the conclusion it's a number plate scanner of some sort but I don't see why checked park cars and would assume they would find more fine opportunities on the road from moving cars. If your registration is out and your car is parked surely they can't fine you as you could claim it's been sitting there for days until you can renew
