camera not shooting

i have a d90 and i was at a shoot the other night. i was using the built in flash to trigger my strobes and about halfway through with pretty quick firing it would not shoot, id hear the autofocus beep but nothing. i figured its either my flash was too hot to fire or the pictures werent getting written to the card fast enough. it would work again for another 4 or 5 frames after i let it sit for 15-20 seconds. i was shooting raw. what do you guys think the problem is?

Impatience, even when waiting for people to reply to your threads

This is an easy one to narrow down. Is the problem reproducible when you don't use flash? What does your buffer indicate while the camera is writing. The camera will typically show how full the buffer is usually in the shots remaining part. If your memory card is one of those ebay cheapies, or a fake then it could easily take 2-3 seconds per picture to write and the buffer would fill up very quickly.

i havent tried reproducing the problem without flash, and i didnt notice my buffer indicating anything out of the ordinary.

I'm pretty certain your buffer was clearing itself
