Can anyone identify this camera?

Sorry for the terrible picture, it is a crop from a site and the best available. I spotted this and it has a curious looking slot where the lens would be with very few controls visible. I wondered whether it might be a panoramic camera with a swing lens but it doesn't have the typical semi-circular bulge for that.

Any idea what it might be?

Do you mean the thing in the middle? If so, that is a motor drive for an SLR camera.
