Can someone help me fix a photo I took?

Hi guys. I took a photo and there's a background shadow that I'd like to eliminate. I have tried everything and cannot correct the problem but I was wondering if someone on here might be able to help me. I could email you the photo since I'd rather not post it up on here.

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it.

If only I were doing well with Photoshop, but I can only do the very basic stuff. Else I'd say "Mail it to me" but it would be no good. I need our PS experts' help ever so often myself, too. But soon someone will come on and offer you their help, I am just sure.
