in fact, £1000s are not uncommon either.

yah true its never cheap -- but still........

I am not earning much at the moment (only a student) so I can only think in £100s currently - budgeting for £1000s is not practical!

true - but top end lenses don't tend to lower much - and I am one of those who likes new things
so its up for long saving
worst thing will be if canon change their whole lens lineup )knowing my luck they will do it a day after I order the final lens!
