Can you justify $550 for .4 difference?

Well, that .4 difference is actually 2/3 stop difference.

The bottom line is, if you need it, you need it, regardless the cost.

I guess I'll have to use the 50 1.8 a little more. I really haven't played much with that since the purchase of 5d so my next wedding in 2 weeks I will test it out there during the reception and see how I like it. I guess for the price, I'd much rather own the 50 1.4 and canon 85 1.8 which seems more logical to me because the ISO is on my side with the body

If you enjoy any subtlety and nuance in your optics, even $1800 or $2000 is justifiable for an 85mm f/1.4 or 1.2

Remember, the Sigma 85 is the DISCOUNT 85 f/1.4.

if you just want to be hit with BOKEH like a freight train, than 50mm f/1.8's and the 85mm f/1.8's will make you happy. People generally don't buy the F/1.4 versions of lenses just because they're faster, but because they have better overall rendering.

It's not just about the max aperture, there are other factors to consider when choosing a lens...and if you don't want (or even know about) those other things...then you probably don't need them.

Thanks. I will take a look at the differences. I have no problem spending the money if there are differences beside the 2/3 stop. So far I've never cheaped out on anything in photography when there's a justification of the product. If there are specific things you'd like me to look at, do let me know. If not, I'll start googling. Thanks
