Can you tell which camera is which?

One is a $250 camera, Nikon D80, and the other is a $1200 D7000 (bought it when it first came out :blushing. Both were taken under the exact same settings, 1/200, f11, ISO 125, 40" soft box using 1 YN560, 35-70mm f2.8D lens. I have to admit, even zooming in 100% it is hard to tell which one is which. The view finder on the D7000 is a bit sharper and brighter, much easier to manually focus in low light.

I think the 1st one is the D7000.
Of course I'm not sure and I might just be looking at jpg compression instead of actual photo difference but I have the feeling the shadow quality is nicer.
I also like the colors slightly better but that's probably a white balance difference.

I'm gonna place my bet on that the 1st one is the D7000. I'm still in doubt though. The details are better on that one, but then again the darkest bits get just pitch black and you loose details there...

I can't tell which is which, but I can see a difference between the two.

I'll guess and say the D7000 is the first one.

My instinct was the first one for the D7000

I can see the difference but that difference looks like its because the fruits been left for a short time... waste of money if you ask me I use a D80

Wow, great job guys. Yep camera 1 is the D7000.

The D80 held up very well until above 400 ISO, then the D7000 handles noise much better. On top of that, focusing is much faster and quicker using the same lens on the D7000. Also, view finder is clearer and brighter, and sharpness is better in pictures taken with the D7000 (100% zoom).

However, the D80 is still a great camera. I love the fact that you can buy it used for cheap and that the built-in focus motor will pretty much handle most (if not all) Nikon lenses.

At ISO 125.. both should be very close image wise... but as you pointed out above.. if you start upping the ISO, the differences would be very apparent pretty quickly!

Why is the second avocado so much rounder?

The key is understanding why the 2 phots look different. Why the D80 and the D7000 have different ISO performance. And why the sharpness varies between the 2 cameras though both photos were made using the same lens/light.

BTW, the D80 also has built-in commander mode. :thumbup:
