That has always been a mandate at PW... that no matter what they do, the newer units must be backwards compatible with the older ones.
That is also pretty much why these new units are giving PW the incredible headaches that they are having. If they could use another frequency outside the range that the flashes are causing the RF interference on, they would be gold... but they would also be totally incompatible with the older units. There is also NO room for discussion about making 2 sets of new wizards with different frequencies nor units with dual frequencies integrated into them.
Radio Poppers had no such restrictions, and that is why they can get a TTL flash to work 100% of the time at over 600 feet while the PWs are struggling to make 30 feet consistently.
