Tried more test shots with the 70-200 IS 2.8 & 2X Extender but this time shooting at f/8…They do seem to be a little sharper when stopping down the lens as compared to my previous post…not anywhere near Prime IQ status but seem to be decent for this combo…
Hand held & cropped…Let me know what you think….
Canon 5DII ... F/8 …1600 ISO …Shutter from 1/400 - 1/3200…focal length 340-375mm

There seems to be a fair bit of colour noise in the shots - also how much of a crop are these - I am guessing quite harsh crops from the general noise in the background areas. Also not sure what is happening with the lighting in the last shot - he seems to have a halo around him

But good results with the combo I think - the details on the birds are clear to see!

Yeah, I'm seeing a really pronounced halo around the bird especially in #4.

Now that you guys pointed it out, I think I got a little carried away with the post processing on a couple of them.
Shots #2 & #4 appeared to have the most pronounced halo effect so I went back and made a few adjustments on those two...
Did that help any?....

2 looks good - 4 I think still has bit of halo round the base and tail I think.

Yeah, I'm still seeing that pesky halo mostly in #4.

I took one last stab at #4 but still seeing a bit of the halo....:gah:
Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated...:D
