Someone is selling it for $50. Everything is perfect he said. Shall I take it? I've never had an SLR. I have only shot with a film point and shoot.

You may already know, but just in case. You existing EF lenses cannot mount on the AE-1 camera.

I know.. I just want to try an older technology... although it looks like AE-1 is pretty advanced LOL.

Get one, i did. It's great and a lot of fun. Check the light seals and mirror foam and the infamous shutter squeak (mirror damper concentric) first.

*Disclaimer* - I don't know anything about this camera.

Best case scenario you get a new toy that you get much more than $50 worth of satisfaction out of. Worst case scenario is you end up with a $50 decoration that would look really cool on your shelf. That in and of itself has been enough for me to pull the trigger on lots of impulse buys.

I'd look for an old Nikon FE or something. They'ee basically the same but the lenses will adapt to your newer digital Canon body with 10 dollar ebay adapters - and work well too.

50 bucks is a good deal though if everything works. Check all the stuff that "Canon AE-1" said about the condition of the camera - also bring the right batteries. Odds are the batteries will be dead and the person selling won't have any. In that case you wouldn't really be able to check the light meter or anything. I think AE-1's have a mechanical shutter speed they default to, I know the Nikon FE does 1/90 and FE2 does 1/250 - not sure about Canon.

Schwettylens, no offense meant but -

SLR means single lens reflex as opposed to a TLR which is twin lens reflex. A dSLR is a SLR.

You couldnt be more wrong, but I do see what you are saying.

DSLR is Digital
SLR not.

So since he has a DSLR, he does not have a SLR
