Canon EFS?? Does Crop Exist???

there is NO 10mm EF lens!
The Widest corrected EF lens is the 14mm F2.8 (costs over £1000.00)
there is of course the Canon EF 15mm fisheye

the Canon 10-20mm is EFS ( i have sold many )

now that solves the mistery......

So why have canon gone to all the trouble to make a lense, that is already compatible to EF, and then make EFS

I work in a camera shop
the sigma 10-22 will FIT on my camera (EOS 1D mkII) but it will NOT give me a full image as the sensor in my camera is 1.3x (bigger than your sensor) you could also put the Sigma 10-20 on ANY EOS body (film, digital the LOT) but ONLY on the 1.6x crop cameras will you get a FULL IMAGE

On my camera for example I'd get a black surround with a circular image in the middle of the photo

EF-S still has the 1.6 crop factor...just check canon website....EP-S has different mouting profile to accommadate the technology....but it doesnt remove crop factor like you think it would

I Dont Dispute the EF range, but if you are a camera shop, then the EFS is SUPPOSED to take away crop as the lens acctually fits inside the camera as to give an adjustment to the focal length as to compensate for the crop factor ( 1.6 for us )

look at the price of the Canon 16-35mm EF lens (over £1000) why? because it will work on a full frame camera and a film camera, to get a correct image on a film camera the image circle has to be big which costs a lot of money to make the glass and keep image quality good

the EFS 18-55mm is cheap because canon don't have to make a lens thats wide angle on a Full frame camera, it only fits the 1.6 crop bodies so the image circle is smaller so the glass etc is cheaper

You wouldn't to by a cheaper EOS model if you have to spend £1000s on lenses so Canon made lenses jut for the 1.6 crop bodies

EF-S does not compensate for 'crop factor'....A shorter focal length compensates for the crop factor.

The reason Canon makes EF-S lenses...is because they they are cheaper to make with a short focal length.
